The trailer of Ring’s sequel is finally released today after long time waiting. The third installment of this creepy franchise is dubbed as Rings. The trailer, honestly speaking, does not make a very good impression on us as there seems to be nothing new in this part with same story line repeated after eleven years.
The original movie, Ring (2002), that starred Naomi Watts was a remake of Japanese hit Ringu. The Hollywood version of this film, directed by Gore Verbinski, was extremely horrifying and scared the wits out of people who watched it. Ring was a big commercial success and was equally acclaimed by critics.
Ring Two (directed by Hideo Nakata) came out in 2005 which also did well at the box office with Naomi Watts reprising her role from the original movie. The success of these two supernatural horror flicks made Hollywood remake other Japanese horror films such as Grudge, One Missed Call, Dark Water and Pulse.
Rings (2016) follow the same spooky theme of a little girl Samara (who lives in a well) killing the people in seven days after they happen to watch a black-and-white scary video. In previous two parts the spooky video existed on VHS but in the Rings the video has made its way on YouTube. After the video is watched the phone rings next second and a voice says ‘seven days’ and there starts a series of disturbing events in that person’s life and eventually that person dies.
Rings is directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez and stars Laura Wiggins, Aimee Teegarden and Johnny Galecki. It is set to release on 28 October 2016. Made with $33m of budget Rings will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Ring is regarded as one of the best horror films of all time in Hollywood cinema history with The Exorcist, Grudge and Conjuring. It will be interesting to see will Rings be able to even touch those or will it fall short.
If you take our opinion Rings will attract the viewers because of the success of previous two installments and may do reasonably well at the box office because of that factor otherwise you will not get anything novel to see in the movie. The title of this sequel does not stand out and could have been better. If you check the novel the movie is based on it has very overestimating titles of its sequels such as Spiral and Loop.
